Legion of Mary

Team Lead: Julie Laborde - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

What We Do: We provide works of mercy on behalf of Corpus Christi parish.  All of our works are approved by Fr. Taylor as our spiritual director.  Our works are various acts of conservation such as Pilgrim Virgin Statue weekly visits to homes of parishioners, Sacred Heart Enthronements, teaching CCD, and welcome visits to new parishioners.  We also do works of consolation (hospital/rehabilitation center visits) and visits to the homebound, as well as works of conversion (door to door apostolate).   Our ministry has active members and auxiliary members.

Time Commitment: Active members attend a meeting once a week (Thursdays at 7 p.m.) in the church office, and perform two hours of spiritual ministry work per week.  Auxiliary members support the active members through prayers (daily rosary and Legion prayers), generally taking no more than 30 minutes per week.

Volunteer Ages: Adult - but we hope to offer a junior ministry in the future.

Prayer Shawl Knitting

Team Lead: Mary McMullan - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

What We Do: We knit and crochet shawls, baby blankets, adult lap blankets, hats, scarves etc. for distribution upon request to those in pain, sick, grieving, or going through an important time in their life. The shawls etc. are made with care, prayer and love that God will bless them as they are presented to the person for whom they were made. Eucharistic ministers have offered shawls and lap blankets when they visit the sick. We provide hats and scarves to a local homeless shelter to give at their annual Christmas party. We reached out to support parishes in Newtown, CT, after the Sandy Hook school shooting and in Texas after Hurricane Harvey. Our Corpus Christi ministry started on Jan. 31, 2010. We accept all talents and can provide guidance in learning to knit or crochet if needed as well as share patterns. Since we started we have distributed over 200 items.

Time Commitment: You can work at home on your time and attend meetings when you can.

We meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month at the Gum Springs Library from 1:30 - 3:00 in a classroom to share our work, pray over our shawls etc. We take a summer break from meeting for July and August.

Volunteer Ages: Most of our members are adult women however we have had several teens join us as well.
